As one of the most invasive types of orthopaedic surgeries, hip replacement surgery can be frightening to consider undergoing. However, with a trusted doctor and ample recovery time, you will be as good as new before you know it. As one of the most important aspects of the hip replacement surgical process, recovery is key to getting back to feeling like your normal self once again. Read on to learn more about hip replacement recovery.

Hip Replacement

  1. It Takes Time
You might think that the day after your surgery you will wake up and feel like your old self once again. And although you might feel a little better knowing that you have a new hip, remember that it takes time in order for you to properly heal. Take things slow during the first few weeks after surgery— if your orthopaedic surgeon recommends that you avoid going on long, brisk walks make sure to do so.
  2. It Might Be Painful At Times
Just like with every type of surgical recovery, it can sometimes cause pain. Although your surgeon will likely give you some painkillers to help ease the pain after surgery, expect to feel a little bit of pain and soreness after surgery— this is completely normal. However, if the pain becomes unbearable and you feel like you just can’t handle it any longer, then it might be time to schedule an appointment with your doctor in order to make sure everything is healing correctly.
  3. Follow Your Exercise and Walking Program
One of the best ways to heal from hip replacement surgery is to follow your exercise and walking program even on days where you feel like you just can’t get out of bed. The constant mobility will help your hip heal faster and your body adapt to the new replacement. Just make sure that if you are feeling a lot of pain one day that you communicate it to your trainer— that way they can ensure that it’s just normal stiffness and not something a bit more severe.
